Dragon Ball Legends is celebrating its 7th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the game is teaming up with Toyotaro, the artist behind Dragon Ball Super, for a stunning collaboration!
As part of the anniversary festivities, Toyotaro’s exclusive illustration will appear on the game’s startup screen, in-game wallpapers, and on Arts Card sleeves. The artwork features Goku activating Ultra Instinct and Vegeta in Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Evolved), standing side by side, unleashing an explosive attack. It’s a powerful image that captures the spirit of the series—and it hits with enough force to send chills down your spine.
Behind the Illustration: An Interview with Toyotaro
We spoke with Toyotaro about his creative process and the details that went into crafting this special piece.
Q: What did you focus on in this illustration?
I wanted each character to stand strong on their own, but also give the impression of fighting as a team. By having them come toward the viewer, I aimed to amplify the impact. Their costumes and expressions were key in expressing that intensity.
Q: The damage to their uniforms hints at a fierce battle. Who did you imagine they were fighting?
There wasn’t a specific opponent in mind, but the setting feels like the Tournament of Power. Naturally, Jiren came to mind. I imagined them already deep into the fight, hence the battle-worn look.

Q: What did you focus on when placing Goku and Vegeta together?
I avoided giving them mirrored poses. Instead, I had their fists overlap to create a sense of depth and movement. The variation helps make the illustration feel more dynamic and real.
Q: How did you handle the expressions and transformation details?
Since these are unique transformations—especially Vegeta’s, which doesn’t appear in the manga—I was careful to capture their essence in a way that anime fans would recognize and appreciate. Getting Vegeta’s hairstyle and expression right was especially important.

Q: How do you feel about your art being used for the game’s startup screen?
It’s an honor to be part of such a major milestone. I hope this illustration brings fans even closer to Dragon Ball Legends.
Poster Announcement
This exclusive illustration will also appear as a fold-out poster in the upcoming August issue of V Jump, hitting shelves on Friday, June 20th. Don’t miss the chance to see this explosive artwork in full-size glory!
