We asked Mr. Rojas to tell us a little about himself and how he came into collection Dragon Ball merchandise.

This is what he had to say:

I’ve been a fan of Dragon Ball ever since I was a kid. Around the year 2010 I began seeing Dragon Ball figures at conventions and shows in Brazil. I avoided buying them, as I knew that if I bought one figure, it would be the first of many.

In 2011 I was at another one of these events, I admired the HQDX and Legend of Saiyans (Banpresto) Dragon Ball figures but still didn’t have the guts to buy. A friend who collected Star Wars was with me at the show and bought a huge figure. At the time I found the price he paid to be surreal. I mentioned this to my girlfriend. I told her I was afraid to buy my first Dragon Ball figure because I knew I would end up buying a lot. She said “If you like it and this money is not needed for another important purpose, then buy it!” Today she is my wife!

It was at this event in 2011, that I started collecting Dragon Ball figures. Initially I only bought here in Brazil and it was quite expensive.
In 2012 I started importing Dragon Ball figures through eBay and kept doing so for a few years. Eventually my purchases began to be taxed heavily. Today I only buy on eBay what is worth importing and also I buy from some Brazilian sellers who import from Japan.

In 2012 I founded Dragon Ball Brazil Fan Club and started exhibiting my collection at events in my city to promote the Dragon Ball collecting hobby. In March 2016 I founded Dragon Ball Figures Brazil. In November of the same year, I bought two mock-ups of Planet Namek produced by a Brazilian mock-up producer.

I designed a showcase around the model and built it with my father. Then we printed background stickers through a specializing company, to stick on the background of the displays.

I already collected the Soul of Hyper (Bandai) line, I have it almost complete, so over the years I searched the figures of this line that I did not have to compose the Namek diorama.

A amazing Brazilian sculptor (Nildo) produced for me the Kami spaceship and the Grand Elder Guru’s house.

Recently my father and I installed the lighting on the Namek display and I purchased the Goku’s spaceship (made by JacksDo) and the Freeza’s spaceship (MEGA) because the old Freeza’s spaceship (Banpresto) I have was too big for my diorama.

So the “Dragon Ball Figures Brazil Namek Diorama” finally was ready for me to release, but there will always be new figures to add to it, to remind us of the nostalgic scenes from the Namek saga and provide even more nostalgia for DBZ fans.

The DBZCU community has been amazing and I am very grateful for all of the great things that have occurred for us all.
Q&A:

1. Age?

– I will be turning 30 this year.

2. Which lines are you collecting?

– I collect nearly every single line within the hobby.
My mentality: “if i dont have it, i gotta have it”

3. What is your most treasured figure?

– Honestly, theres too many…but just here is a short list of some very special ones dear to me:

4. What is the most you have spent on a figure?

– The most i have spent would be $1400 USD on the Double Chance Ichiban Kuji Angel Wing Goku. Prior to that purchase, i had seen 2 others before, that were being auctioned. The both of them reached up to nearly $2000.00, which was a bit much for me. Patiently waiting for the next available one, I some how lucked out and saw one posted as i was refreshing the yahoo auctions page. It had a BUY IT NOW price for $1400.00. Without hesitation, i purchased it.

5. What are your plans for the future?
– I am actually packing away my collection as i type this. Our time here in Okinawa, Japan is nearing its end and we will find out where we move to by the end of the year. The goal is to get stationed out on mainland Japan, but if that is not an option…perhaps we will attempt to extend our time here at our current location. Regardless, this will not hinder my passion for the hobby and I will continue to collect 24/7. CANT STOP WONT STOP!!!

After 2 1/2 years of collecting, i can genuinely state that i have accumulated 95% of my hunting list. You may view most of my additions within the video and photo gallery down below.

..and finally here’s an updated photo gallery/slide show of the current state of Richie’s vast collection. It’s by far the largest and most prestigious I’ve ever seen and something truly worth a look.

Huy’s dedication to this particular figure line is compounded by his ability to tastefully display them all. It’s no secret that some collections can become so expansive that displaying every figure can become a chore. However, Huy Le’s solution with the smaller shelving and lighting has resulted in something that’s pleasing to the eye, without being too complicated.

Hello all Dragon Ball Fans!
My name is Huy Le. I’m a collector from the United States and currently working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). My interest in the Dragon Ball series began when the manga was first released in 1997 in Vietnam. Ever since, I’ve been keeping an eye on anything Dragon Ball- related but only started my own collection about 4 years ago once I have a stable source of income.
I’ve decided to do a Q&A session so you can understand a bit more about myself and the story behind my collection.
1. Age?
– I will be turning 31 this year.
2. Which lines are you collecting?
– I only collect the Dragon Ball World Collectable Figure (WCF).
3. Why only WCF?
– I like WCF mostly because of the high quality of the figures. They are relatively small so they do not take up too much space. The huge amount and variety of characters also gives me a lot to chase for. I think WCF is an all-or-nothing line, and Banpresto has done a great job of representing some of the most iconic scenes in the series. By focusing exclusively on WCF, I was able to put more time and resources into my collection.
4. What is your first WCF figure?
– My first WCF was Pilaf from volume 3.
5. What is the most you have spent on a WCF?
– The most I have spent was a little over $500 for the remodeled SSJ4 Gogeta. It is a remodeled version of Gogeta from the Dragon Ball Kai volume. I won it through an auction in Japan.
6. What is your favorite WCF?
– It has to be the above-mentioned SSJ4 Gogeta because Gogeta is my favorite fusion and I like the SSJ4 form due to its uniqueness. Before that my favorite was Fusion Zamasu, which was also won through another auction. Because I now have the complete WCF collection, I’m trying to selectively collect the best remodeled ones to expand my collection while waiting for the newer releases from Banpresto.

During my 4 years of collecting, I’ve made some good friends along the way. Notable ones include banpresto.lex from instagram (my setup was inspired by photos on his page); Alan Hung, Summer N John, Raymond Chung, Eliot Lehrman, Srgs Mnto, etc from DBZ Collectors United, Y.w. Chan, Marco Lee from the Hong Kong Dragon Ball group, and many others from the Vietnam Dragon Ball group. I’d like to say thank you for all the tips, knowledge, and support and I have definitely enjoyed our endless discussions on Dragon Ball- related stuff with each one of you.

Hello, my name is Adam. I’ve been collecting DBZ since 2004.

Why only go after prototype figures?

     When I started collecting figures, right away I wanted to do something different. The resin King Cold is one of the most limited figures out there, yet it seems to pop up in just about every collection. I wanted a collection that is one of a kind and can’t be duplicated. This is still a growing collection.

     The prototype figures, I have only been collecting for 3 years. I’m very picky on what to buy. My collection is mainly Irwin, Jakks, and Banpresto. The figures being test shots, samples, first shots, injection molds, and resins. Sometimes the figures will look different from the production.

What’s so special about limited DBZ card boxes?

     Score’s Dragon Ball Z TCG was my second love after Pokemon. All the neighborhood kids would get together and play the game. Having the mentality that I do, I once again wanted something different. It was turning into a job trying to complete the sets. Factory sealed limited edition booster boxes seemed to be the best route.

     My box collection started about 10 years ago. Lost Episodes is the only GT Box I had interest in adding. Lost Episodes, happens to be the rarest of all the Score DBZ/GT boxes. My Score DBZ box collection is missing Trunks limited edition.
