Welcome to a new episode of Weekly Dragon Ball News! Let’s dive into everything happening in the Dragon Ball universe for the week of January 26th. But first, a quick look back at some highlights from last week.
V Jump’s jumbo March issue landed in Japan, stuffed with Dragon Ball goodness. It spotlighted Dragon Ball Super Divers’ 8th set, teased new GDR cards and campaigns, tossed in a bonus Vegeta card built to play nice with the BUPPA System, and still found room for fresh Fusion World updates.
Then Super Divers went full Legendary Attack. The 8th set launched with the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie as its backbone, headlined by Super Saiyan Full Power Broly and Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku as SEC cards. As if that weren’t enough, Japan also got slick 40th Anniversary deck boxes and Diver Passports decorated with Akira Toriyama’s manga art, finally giving everyone an excuse to protect their cards in style.
Popularity contest time: the global DRAGON BALL THE ONE poll wrapped up, and out of 212 characters, Goku did what Goku always does and took first place. Uchida and Toyotarou even broke down the rankings in a video now live on the official YouTube channel, because debating character placements is half the fun.
On the event front, Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri took over Makuhari Messe, gathering manga, anime, games, toys, figures, and enough announcements to keep the official site busy with follow-up articles. Meanwhile, acrylic carabiner gummies hit stores, the Super Divers Limited Cup finals wrapped up, and Toyotarou bravely put pen to paper again.
As for this week, pre-orders opened for the DRAGON BALL S.H.Figuarts Collection Son Goku “Onwards to Adventure” set, a deluxe combo of a poseable Goku figure and a full-color history book. The figure shows Goku in a slightly different outfit than usual, while the book digs into behind-the-scenes interviews and the entire history of the Dragon Ball S.H.Figuarts line. Collectors, wallets trembling, were encouraged to check out the official site for details.
Rounding things out, Ichiban Kuji’s Battle of the Super Saiyan starts rolling into Japanese stores at the end of the month, with MASTERLISE figures of Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 Goku, plus a Last One prize featuring a particularly menacing Majin Buu.
That’s it for this week’s Dragon Ball News, thanks for tuning in and we hope you have a Super Week!
